Most Common: Lazuli Bunting (154 sightings), Yellow-breasted Chat (160 sightings), Yellow Warbler (131 sightings)

The Desolation Canyon expedition originates in Green River, Utah. On the morning that the trip is scheduled to begin, the group will fly from Green River to Sandwash via scenic air charter flight. The flight is generally scheduled in the early morning hours (6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.). The river trip begins at Sandwash (an old ferry crossing on the Green River) and ends at Swasey’s Rapids near Green River about Noon on the last day. You will travel a total of 84 miles on the river. We will visit interesting historical sites, observe unique geological features, and marvel at the surrounding vistas and panoramic views. In addition to the site- seeing, there will be some whitewater excitement! There are 60 rapids in the canyon, most are rated class II

About the Raft
About the raft used for the Desolation Canyon Tracy Aviary Birding Trip
ROWING RAFTS:
On this trip, we’ll be using our 18-Foot Avon Pro rowing rafts, which the guides row down the river, and participants enjoy the ride. We also take some inflatable kayaks (“duckies”) for anyone who wants to experience a little more “adventure and excitement.” We have both single and double kayaks available, and participants generally take turns throughout the day.
Camping and Dining on the Tracy Aviary Birding Trip
Our meals consist of a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and dairy products. They are nutritious and delicious. Although we do not serve a “vegetarian” menu, we do provide enough fresh produce and non-meat items that most vegetarian dieters get along fine for the week they are on the river.
We are willing to try and help with special diet requests, but if your food options are very restrictive or require extra time or preparations we may not be able to accommodate you. Please give us a call to discuss your particular diet needs. We may suggest that you bring some of your own food items to supplement our menu.
